Ruby Redfort Look into my Eyes by Lauren Child. Review by Isobel

This book is about Ruby Redfort who is a spy. Ruby is an incredibly smart kid who lives in Twinford, USA. She really wants to be a spy and one day everything in her house is stolen and Ruby wonders why. When Hitch, apparently a butler, turns up she knows that something odd is going on but doesn't know why or what. She is soon recruited by SPECTRUM, a secret agency, who are trying to find out about the mysterious death of Lopez, a top coder. Ruby soon discovers that there is more to the case than meets the eye and finds that a gang of crooks are trying to steal the Jade Buddha of Khotan, which is arriving at Twinford museum soon.
This book is very exciting and has lots of different gadgets in it, most of which Ruby steals! I think people who like a good mystery will really like this book.

Violet and the Hidden Treasure by Harriet Whitehorn. Review by Isobel

The second mystery in the Violet Remy-Robinson series is about the Maharajah of Bochir's cockatoo. Violet is taking a break from mystery solving and is on summer holiday in India with her godmother Celeste. She meets the Maharajah and also meets the Maharani, the Maharajah's cockatoo. The Maharajah missed his wife a lot when she died so as Maharani is the name for the Maharajah's wife, he named the cockatoo after her. Violet is very surprised when Rajesh the Maharajah's butler appears back at her house in London with the Maharani on Valentine's day. People have discovered that the Maharani is the clue to finding the treasure of the Maharajah, so lots of peoples are trying to birdnap the bird so they can get all the treasure. The trouble all starts when Angel, the Maharajah's niece moves into the neighbourhood and tries to trick Violet into giving the cockatoo to her.
This is a very exciting book and there are lots of twists and turns. I'd recommend it to fans of mystery  stories.

The Sirens of Surrentum by Caroline Lawrence. Review by Isobel

This book is about Flavia Gemina and her friends who go to spend the summer in Naples at the villa Limona with Felix as their host. Their friend Plucha, who is the daughter of Felix, thinks someone is trying to get rid of her mother, Polla, by poisoning her. They make a list of the people staying at the Villa Limona, for they could be suspects. They mostly suspect Annia Serena, Claudia Casta and Clodia Voluptua who has a pet panther because they might be in love with Felix and in order to marry him they need to get rid of Polla, his wife.
This is a very exciting book with lots of unexpected twists and turns and you never know what will be coming next! I'd recommend this book to people who like mysteries.

The Roman Mysteries: The Thieves of Ostia/Caroline Lawrence by Isobel

This book is about Flavia Gemina, her Jewish friend, Jonathan Mordecai, Nubia the slave girl and Lupus the tongue-less boy. They all live in Ancient Rome in the town of Ostia and the story starts when Flavia follows a magpie to get back her fathers signet ring and is attacked by a pack of wild dogs. Jonathan rescues her and they become friends. The next day they go to the market and buy Nubia as Flavia feels sorry for her because the slave master has stripped her naked and she is wearing nothing but a price tag! They meet Lupus in the graveyard. He has no tongue. They all find Jonathan's watchdog dead and decide to try to find who is killing the dogs of Ostia.
This book is very exciting and has quite a lot of suspense in it, especially when Aristis, a possible suspect, throws himself off a lighthouse.
I would recommend this book to people who like mystery and adventure stories.
