The Trenches-Jim Eldridge by Anna

In this historical fiction 16 year old Billy Stevens joins the British army. He goes off with the Royal Engineers working with Cables and Communication on the front line. There in the  trenches he finds friendship, courage, grief, anger and pride. He comes back not a boy but a man with terrible memories that will not fade. The reader is taken to the trenches and feels part of the action. I recommend this book!!

Gangsta Granny by David Walliams - Review by Duncan Reid

Ben was always bored of going to his grannies house. It absolutely stunk of cabbage and she blew off  without even acknowledging it. However one day Ben makes an amazing discovery in his grannies biscuit tin. So one night Ben cycles over to his grannies and hides in the bushes feeling suspicious.
After that they get up to mischief together.

I thought this book was very funny especially Ben's Granny but it was unexpectedly sad at the end.
I think David Walliams is a very good author and I couldn't put the book down.

How to be a Pirate reviewed by Louis

H.T.B.A.P.  is in the series of How to Dragon books by Cressida Cowell. It's very good if you like books with lots of pictures. I like that it is set in Viking times because it has lots of sword fighting between goodies and baddies. The main character is Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, who is the son of the Chief of the Hairy Hooligan tribe. Hiccup is a small skinny boy with freckles and red hair. He is very good natured and careful and clever and he likes playing with his best friend Fishlegs and his pet dragon Toothless. In his latest adventure, Hiccup is having a Sword Fighting at Sea Lesson when his boat hits a coffin!  In the coffin there is a 'True but Honest Farmer', still alive, who tells them there is a great treasure on the Isle of the Scullions. The whole tribe goes to the island to find the treasure and encounter lots of dragons and traps and an enemy in disguise. I recommend this exciting book to people who like stories with lots of swordfights, dragons and pirates.

How to Survive Summer Camp/Jacqueline Wilson. Review by Isobel

Stella has to go to summer camp because her Mum is going away on honeymoon with her new step-father "Uncle Bill". Stella does NOT want to go! She meets several children, and makes friends with Alan, Marzipan (a girl), and Rosemary. Karen and Louise are bullies, but Janie is OK. Stella beats James in a sausage eating contest, meets a baby fox and makes friends with the Brigadier. In the end Stella enjoys summer camp and makes a magazine for the camp.
I liked this book because it is full of adventure, the characters are like real children and Stella defeats the bullies in the end.
I would recommend this book.

In this wonderful fantasy Ben and Iggy set off on a journey encountering many adventures on the way and also finding out some secrets about Ben's family. If you want to find out the secrets I recommend you READ THIS BOOK !!!

Goth Girl by Chris Riddell

                  Goth Girl by Freya Blundel

The 'goth girl'is called Ada Goth ,she is the daughter of Lord Goth an eccentric lord who lives in a ginormous mansion called Ghastly-Gorm-Hall,her mother was a tightrope walker until, she went to the angels.

In Ghastly-Gorm-Hall there was a gamekeeper called Maitravers who in my opinion is very creepy, he is responsible for the indoor hunt (a hunt around the mansion to chase endangered magical species by guests.)

I recommend this book as it is an enjoyable read for girls 7-9.
