Arthur and the earthworms by Johanne Mercier reviewed by Simeon

This is a story about a boy called Arthur that has a duck, and his duck love worms. So one day when Arthur was at his granddad's house he dug up tonnes of worms. Then his dad had an idea, that he might set up a shop next to their house to sell worms for fishermen. And that's what he did.

So that day he was out and a car passed and lady got out and asked for a long and short. She thought they were selling lemonade, but Arthur pulled out a long worm and a short worm.

Many more people came to buy Arthur's worms. Most people just bought a few, but one day a man came and asked for 450 earthworms for a fishing trip with his friends.

I like Arthur and the earthworms because its a nice and jolly story with lots of funny scenes.

Dirty Bertie was having dinner one night and his sister could smell a very weird smell, everyone looks at Bertie, Bertie says it wasn't him. Then Whiffer the dog goes round the table and the smell gets stronger. Mum says it was bath time for Whiffer and it was Bertie's turn to try and do it. He goes out the front and tries to get Whiffer in the bath. A boy from school called Royston walks past with his dog Duke and Royston's dog was always clean and Royston asks "trying to give him a bath". Bertie goes quiet and tried getting him in the bath again, Royston says about the dog show. Bertie wants to go to the show so really tries to get Whiffer clean. They go to the dog show, the bad smell comes back, again everyone looks at Bertie but the person in charge goes along sniffing all the dogs, when she got to Bertie shr could really smell it. She says it's Bertie and says he is out of dog show.  At the side of the dog show Whiffer tried flipping dog biscuit up and into his mouth, but the three dogs in the final saw the biscuit and went after it, then Bertie tries sneaking out.

Goosebumps by Kayley

When the Morris family get lost trying to find a theme park they stumble upon horror land instead in horror land there are no crowds no queues and the admission is free.
The Morrises think its a pretty cool place.
But there's that heart stopping ride on the doom slide. And that terrifying experience in the house of mirrors. There's something weird about horror land.
Something a little too creepy, something a little too real.
Its a good book to read.

The Chocolate Dog, by Holly Web - by Jasmine

Amy already has one naughty little sister ,so why do her parents need another baby? Will there be any room for Amy?At least she has  her dog Choc .He makes her feel like she's the most important
person in the world. But can Choc help  Amy see that she's special to her family too?

I like this book because it has a good friendship between Amy and her little sister, Lara.  Amy made Lara a cake on her birthday when the new baby was being born. Choc is a funny dog who helps Amy to cheer up Lara when the baby is spoiling her birthday.

wimpy kid the third wheel by Jasmine

its a funny book about...

A boy called Greg who asks a girl called Abigail to come to the Valentine's Dance with him.  But it turns out to be a total disaster.  Some old people say they have a meeting in the hall where the dance is to be held.  So half the hall is for the old people, and half for the Dance - but they have to have the lights on and the music low, which spoils the theme of Midnight in Paris. The boy who was meant to go with Abigail, but who dumped her, was there with another girl, and Abigail saw him, and cried for the rest of the dance.

Weird But True! 300 Outrageous Facts by Simeon Watts

This is a very good facts book for children with tonnes of different really interesting facts. Here are my six favourite facts.

1. A Canadian woman rode a motorised toilet up to 46 miles per hour!
2. Some crabs are bright purple.
3. A candy company makes Gummy Bears the size of footballs.
4. The world's largest bat has a wingspan as wide as a sofa.
5. It is possible for a crocodile to eat a shark.
6. Bees once made blue and green honey after picking up colourful waste from an M&Ms factory!

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fact books. Hana Horbury in 4GR might like this fact: "There is a horse that is so small she sleeps in a doghouse." I think Hana might like this because she likes horses and horse riding.

Anne Frank/Susanna Davidson by Isobel

This book is all about Anne Frank, who was a Jewish girl who wrote a diary in World War 2. She had to live in a special annexe because the Nazis hated the Jewish people and Anne and her family were in danger of being sent to a concentration camp. People did not often come back from the camps.
In 1938 Anne heard of Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass when Nazis beat up Jewish people, smashed home and shop windows and burnt 1000 synagogues (a Jewish church).

Anne and her family lived in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, which the Nazis invaded in 1940.
Anne stayed as cheerful as she could throughout the war, even when she caught typhus in the camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau. This was to keep her older sister Margo happy. Anne died of typhus in 1945 but now she's become famous! I would recommend this book to 8 years and over!

Atticus the Storyteller 100 Greek myths - Simeon

This is a collection of 101 Greek myths told by Atticus the story teller. He was a real person. My favourite myth was the cuckoo's trick because I like Greek myths and also it's quite a funny story. It's about Zeus wanting to marry Hera when Zeus gives Hera tons of magical presents and the present that I liked most was a flower that bloomed a different colour each day. But interestingly Hera still wouldn't marry Zeus. Then Hera said that Zeus wouldn't be able to marry her until Zeus would be able to sit on her lap without her noticing. Then Zeus stomped of to his palace and made the most enormous thunder storm ever and turned in to a cuckoo and flue to Hera's palace thro the rain. now I wont tell you any more because that would be giving the story away but I do recommend this book to year threes for their topic of ancient Greece.

Clean Break/Jacqueline Wilson by Isobel

'Clean Break' is about Em, her little sister Vita, her even younger brother Maxie. Their Dad leaves their Mum for a lady called Sarah. Em tells lots of stories to keep her brother and sister happy, and meets her favourite author, Jenna Williams. She also breaks her arm, get a reindeer puppet called Dancer, and is given a real emerald ring by her Dad.

I really like this story, because it is true-to-life and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes Jacqueline Wilson books.

Goth Girl and the Fete Worse Than Death/Chris Riddell by Isobel

This book is all about Ada Goth and her fight against 'The Grocers of the Night'-vampires who want to drink the blood of the best chefs in England, who all happen to be gathered at Ghastly Gorm Hall (where Ada lives) for the 'The Great Ghastly Bake-Off'. The chefs are;
William Flake and his cat Tyger-Tyger
The Hairy Hikers
Nigellina Sugarspoon
Gordon Ramsgate
Miss Mary Huckleberry
Hollyhead
Heston Harboil and his Muscovy Duck Pushkin.

Lucy Borgia, Ada's governess, gives Ada umbrella fencing lessons on the rooftops of Ghastly Gorm Hall. These come in useful at the end of the story.

This book is excellent. I recommend it for children who like spooky twists to their stories.

The Clumsies Make A Mess - by Sorrel Anderson. Reviewed by Tom Akerman

This is a good comedy book about two mice, a dog and a elephant, all thinking about the same thing - the most waggy  tail competition. This story is very funny because the human in the story called Howard found a elephant in the storage room. The weakness is that it can get a bit weird. I recommend this book for people who like fun books.

Tom Gates Genius Ideas (Mostly)- Tom Akerman

This book is very funny because in some situations like when he was in the school concert show, Tom Gates' guitar went horribly out of tune. In this book there are some fantastic illustrations and jokes. Looking on the negative side, there was not really a story just a few things that have happened in Tom Gates' life. All in all, I  would give this book a mark of seven out of ten.
